What
is Seeds of HOPE International and what is its mission?
Seeds of HOPE International is all about helping orphaned and street
children in Uganda. We will provide shelter, food,
clothing, medical attention, education, vocational training and most
importantly, a chance to know Jesus Christ and to grow spiritually. Our
mission is to build Academies that will house these children.
How
does Seeds of HOPE International plan to accomplish its mission?
Seeds of HOPE International will use all resources at hand:
donations from concerned individuals and organizations, the skills of its
board members, prayer and the goodness of volunteers to care for
these children. The first Academy will be in Uganda. We believe that we must provide not only for the physical needs
of the children, but more importantly for their spiritual needs. The
physical needs include not only food, clothing and shelter, but also
education and vocational training in a skill that can be used to
"earn a living". When that academy is firmly established and
self-supporting, we will move on and start another academy similar to the
first. The ultimate goal is to have "self sustaining" Academies
in various parts of the "Third World" where children are cared
for and prepared for life in their communities. The Academy will
positively impact not only the lives of the children within the Academy,
but also the lives of those children and adults in surrounding
communities.
How
was Seeds of HOPE International founded and why?
Seeds of HOPE International was founded by Juliet Ofwono. She was born and raised in Uganda, East Africa. In 1976, at the
age of 14, Juliet escaped from the regime of Idi Amin with her mother and
four siblings to the United States. While in Uganda, Juliet sought to help
those less fortunate than herself, especially the children. Prior to
leaving Uganda, Juliet had accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.
It wasn't until 1989 that she rededicated her life to Christ and fully
committed herself to serving God. She always carried a burden for
unfortunate children. In1995 God revealed His plan for her life. In the
Fall of 2000 the vision of "Seeds of HOPE International" was
born.
What
makes a Seeds of HOPE International Academy different than an ordinary
orphanage?
An Academy is geared to giving children, not only shelter, food,
clothing and education; but also a home and a place for vocational training
to prepare
a child for self-support or even college. The Academy will support
children to age18. The Academy will be self-sustaining and will require
minimal support to function. The Academy offers a long-term positive
impact on life, and not a short-term temporary solution.
